SACA Brier Scholarship Fund

Introduction

The Southern Alberta Curling Association (SACA) Scholarship Fund was established with the proceeds from the very successful 2009 Brier held in Calgary.   The scholarships are intended to financially assist junior curlers who are primarily attending post secondary schools.  While consideration will be given to competitive curlers, students who curl recreationally but help in other ways to better the sport of curling will also be given equal consideration.  We look forward to receiving your applications.

Criteria

Applicant must be a resident of Alberta, attending high school (with proof of acceptance into a post secondary institute) or a post secondary school and curling within Southern Alberta (SACA boundaries), or is a resident of Southern Alberta (SACA)  but attending a post secondary institution at a location outside of SACA.
Applicant must be 21 years of age or under as of December 31st in the year prior to the application deadline.
Attendance or acceptance in a recognized post-secondary institution required.

Applicant must have previously competed or is currently competing in competitive events (Playdowns, Winter Games), or participate in an organized curling league.

Applicant must have demonstrated a willingness to ‘give back to the sport’ (instructing, coaching, officiating, volunteering), and possess above average interest and dedication in the promotion of curling. Equal consideration will be given to applicants that dedicate and volunteer their time at agencies outside the sport.

Must be a member in good standing with a curling club affiliated within SACA (this criterion may be waived by the review committee for students attending schools outside of SACA boundaries).

Scholarship Award

The scholarships will be awarded to three recipients annually to June 2014:  one male, one female, and a third from the remaining applicants.

Successful applicants will not be allowed to apply again.
