THE NEW NCCP
The new
NCCP model is made up of 2 streams for
curling and a total
of 5 programs each with it's own
coaching requirements.
Stream 1 -
Community Sport
Coaches in the Community Sport stream
typically become involved on a volunteer
basis because their children participate
in this sport. They tend to work
with participants of all ages who are
new to the sport. Community Sports
stream has 2 coaching contexts:
Inititation (Club Coach Youth) and
Ongoing Participation (Club Coach).
CLUB COACH - YOUTH
This course has been developed by the
Canadian Curling Association to help
meet the needs of those who are leading
or assisting in youth programs at the
club level. This one-day course, Club Coach - Youth, includes interactive modules such as:
Setting the Scene, Ethical Coaching, Practice Planning, Safety, Game Orientation, Teaching the Skills, Program Management, Games, Drills & Activities.
Participants of this course will be recognized by the CCA as being Club Coach - Youth trained. This course is NOT part of certification for coaches who intend on registering with a team in playdowns.
The cost of the course is $105.00 (GST
included).
CLUB COACH
A
14-hour course on
coaching/instructing dealing with
the curling skills and knowledge
necessary to teach the beginner to
intermediate level players.
The "Trained" Club Coach is able to
instruct Novice and Intermediate
Learn to Curl clinics as well as
coaching competitive teams at a
District and Regional level.
This course includes modules such
as:
Plan and design a curling clinic,
make ethical decisions, teach
correct curling skills, analyze and
correct curling techniques, ensure a
safe coaching environment and plan,
manage and design a curling program.
Club Coach is held on a Saturday and Sunday and runs from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm both days.
Cost of the course is $126.00
(GST included).
Stream 2 -
Competition
Coaches in the Competition Stream
usually have previous coaching
experience or are former athletes in the
sport. They tend to work with
athletes over the long term to improve
performance, often in preparation for
Provincial, National and International
competitions. The Competitions Stream
has 3 coaching contexts: Introduction
(Competition Coach), Development
(expected to be introduced in 2011),
High Performance.
Competition Coach
A 14-hour course
designed to prepare coaches to meet the
needs of athletes who are relatively new
to competition. At the completion
of the course, coaches will be able to
develop athletes of any age by teaching
or refining the curling skills, strategy
and tactics required for athletes to
complete at Regional, Provincial, and
National level competitions.
To become a
"Certified" Competition Coach, you must
complete the following:
Competition Coach Course (2 Day workshop)
An Ethical Decisions Module Training (Multisport - 3 hours)
An Ethical Decisions On-Line Evaluation
In Person, On Ice Evaluation
The course is held on a Saturday and Sunday and runs from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm both days.

LEVEL 3 TECHNICAL
(continues until
Development context is introduced in
2011)
Level 3 programs are aimed at teaching fundamental principles applicable to coaching high performance athletes. The objectives of Level 3 are to develop a high level of technical expertise necessary to advance skills. Level 3 deals with coaching a high performance team and individual athletes.
